Senator Mike "Citizen Mike" Folmer's Statement on Gov. Rendell's Budget Proposal

AUDIO | VIDEO

"Gov. Rendell's proposal to skyrocket spending by 5.25 percent is asking far too much of Pennsylvanians, whom he has already squeezed to pay for his continuing tax, borrow and spend programs. Taxpayers are working harder and sacrificing more than ever to pay for a government that each year grows faster than inflation and population growth combined. It is time to insist that government live within its means, rather than making it more difficult for Pennsylvanians to live within theirs. Any budget that increases spending beyond 3.15 percent, which is the combined average rates of inflation and population growth in Pennsylvania for the last three years, is not acceptable. That's why twenty-seven of my Senate colleagues have joined me in cosponsoring the Taxpayer Protection Act, which would force government – like workers and families – to live within its means.
