Folmer Applauds Senate Passage Of Responsible State Budget

HARRISBURG (June 20, 2007) – Senator "Citizen Mike" Folmer (R-Lebanon) applauded the Senate's passage today of a responsible state budget that holds the line on taxes, spending, and borrowing.

Folmer noted the following merits of the fiscal blueprint, which passed the Senate by the overwhelming margin of 49-1:

  • No new taxes or tax increases, consistent with Folmer's "Promise to Pennsylvania."

  • No new borrowing or depletion of the state's emergency Rainy Day Fund.

  • Spending is held below the combined rates of inflation and population growth, consistent with Folmer's Taxpayer Protection Act that recently passed the Senate Finance Committee.

  • No accounting gimmicks to hide the level of true spending and/or forestall a tax increase until next year

"We've sent the House a fiscally responsible budget that will help our economy and secure our future without punishing taxpayers," said Folmer. "Negotiations with the House and Governor are not final, but at least we're starting from the right place. I will continue to fight for fiscal responsibility in the Senate."
