For Immediate Release Folmer to Participate in Educational Choice Town Hall Meeting, Public Invited to AttendHarrisburg – State Senator Mike Folmer will facilitate a discussion on school choice legislation at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October, 18, at the Lebanon Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College, located at 735 Cumberland Street. The event is hosted by Kitchen Table Patriots and FreedomWorks and is open to the public. Other panelists scheduled to participate include Anastasia Przybylski, Co-Chair of the Kitchen Table Patriots, and State Representative Jim Christiana (R-Beaver). "Ten years ago, when education choice was last deliberated, opponents said that with more time and more money public education would improve. Since then, time and billions of dollars have been spent, but the promised academic achievement has not improved," said Senator Folmer. "For the sake of children today – and for generations to follow – we simply must change the status quo, and let parents decide the educational needs of their children, especially for those children who are trapped in a failing and dangerous school, simply because of their zip code. I invite and encourage parents and other education stakeholders to attend this meeting, and ask questions that they may have on school choice." Przybylski said the group wants to inform the public of components of Governor Tom Corbett's education reform proposal. "After years of pouring money into failing schools, it is important to give parents an option to choose a better school for their children," she said. Ana Puig, Co-Chair of the Kitchen Table Patriots, added, "We cannot allow another generation of kids to grow up without the opportunity of a good education."
