Week of January 25, 2016

Senate State Government Committee Meeting
The Senate State Government Committee, which I Chair, considered the following bills:  Senate Bill 488 (Vogel): Joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Pennsylvania, reducing the size of the General Assembly (reported as amended, 9-2); House Bill 153 (Knowles): Joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Pennsylvania, reducing the size of the House of Representatives (reported as committed, 10-1), and; House Bill 1484 (Gillen): gives the PA Department of General Services (DGS) options for the continued preservation and construction of “Soldiers’ Grove” and of the Medal of Honor Memorial Gardens, which have run out of land (reported unanimously as committed).  You can watch video of the meeting here.

Bills Pass Senate, Go to House
Both bills passed unanimously.
Senate Bill 936 – one time employer fee for child support garnishment;
House Bill 158 – allows the Secretary of Education to issue weather, safety and health related emergency declarations.

Bill Passes Senate, Goes to Governor for Further Action
Senate Bill 880 – (unanimous) two-year delay of the Keystone Exams’ graduation requirement.

Lebanon County Commission for Women 2016 Hall of Fame Inductees
The Lebanon County Commission for Women recently announced the women to be honored and inducted at the annual Hall of Fame luncheon on March 23.  These women serve as role models and have made significant contributions to their community.
