Bills Pass Senate, Go to House for Further Consideration
All bills passed unanimously unless otherwise noted.
Senate Bill 359 – eliminates jail-time for parents’ failure to pay child’s truancy fines;
Senate Bill 1062 – increases penalties for home invasion burglaries;
Senate Bill 1077 – removes school district mailing requirements for the use of audio on school buses;
Senate Bill 1144 – prohibits sale of over-the-counter cough medicines containing dextromethorphan to minors;
Senate Bill 1156 – clarifies health care personnel and clergy under the Child Protective Services Law;
Senate Bill 1229 – technical changes to distribution of PA Breeding Funds;
House Bill 944 – addresses management of Philadelphia neighborhood improvement districts;
House Bill 1310 – (48-1) protects privacy of individuals who make 911 emergency calls;
House Bill 1574 – expands anti-hazing laws for schools and student organizations.

All bills passed unanimously unless otherwise noted.
House Bill 805 – (26-22) ends seniority-based teacher layoffs;
House Bill 1200 – repeals redundant railroad viaduct and bridge maintenance fees;
House Bill 1788 – amends the Philadelphia Community and Economic Improvement Act.

Senate State Government Committee Meeting and Hearing
The Senate State Government Committee, which I chair, held both a meeting and public hearing this week. On May 10, the committee unanimously reported the following legislation to the full Senate for further consideration: Senate Bills 1192, 1205, 1225 and 1232, and House Bills 1205 and 1653. On May 11, the committee held a public hearing where Secretary Topper from the PA Department of General Services and Secretary Minnich from the PA Office of Administration explained recent Executive Orders by the Governor.
